            The presentation will include a discussion of how family stories bind us together, how they sustain us when we lose loved ones and how they can supply us with great adventures as we to in search of family.  Mike will read several stories from various books he has published about family and other topics.  He will also preview the book he is currently working on entitled,"Saving Fort Apache."  After the presentation, Mike will be available to sign and sell books.

Mike Lunsford is a teacher and writer from rural southern Parke County.  His human interest column, “The Off Season,” is regularly published in the Terre Haute Tribune-Star, and his newest collection of stories, A Windy Hill Almanac was released in late October, 2013.

            Mike works out of his writer’s cabin, the result of his receiving an Eli Lilly Teacher Creativity Grant in 2010.  A teacher of English and American History in Southwest Parke Community Schools for 35 years, he was named the Indiana Rural School Teacher of the Year in 2009, was in the inaugural class of the Abraham Lincoln Teacher Fellowship Program at the Lincoln Presidential Library in 2006, won an Arts-Illiana Bravo Award for Arts Advocacy in 2005, was named the Indiana History Teacher of the Year in 2003, and was a WTHI-TV10 Golden Apple winner in 1998.

           He has been named Reader’s Choice “Best Columnist" in both 2011 and 2013.  Columnist and reviewer Kevin Cullen has written that, “Mike’s essays are love letters, hymns to family, friends, quiet walks, and all that is good, true and permanent”.
