The presentation on land records in Illinois will cover a brief discussion of land descriptions in Illinois and the record books in which land transactions are typically recorded (deed books, quit claims, warrantee deeds, mortgages, releases, etc.). We will continue with a discussion of typical grantor/grantee indexes, tract/parcel indexes, actually searching and locating transactions for a specific piece of property, and a discussion of several actual research problems involving land records.
Michael John Neill has been actively involved in genealogical research for over twenty-five years, researching his children's ancestry in many states and six European countries. He has a master's degree in mathematics and lectures nationally on a wide variety of genealogy topics. Michael leads an annual research trip to the Salt Lake Family History Library every May, writes a how-to newsletter "Casefile Clues," and writes free daily "Genealogy Tip of the Day."
